The origin of Taoist priests

Two thousand years ago, when the ancient Chinese people were thinking about where I came from, where I should go and other eternal life questions, they gave birth to a group of people who pursued immortality and freedom as the answer. They were the pioneers of Taoism, exploring the way of existence between man and the universe, between man and man, and between man and himself. They imitated all things in the natural universe and found that the Tao was eternal. A group of people began to explore the truth together, thus deriving Taoism. And their exploration is not only about inspiring ideas, but also about creating more concrete practical methods and objects to help them achieve their goals. The Oriental Mysterious Store aims to work hard and spread what they know to the world.

L ü Dongbin

Master Chunyang

L ü Dongbin, a famous Taoist immortal and one of the Eight Immortals, is said to be from the Tang Dynasty, with the courtesy name Chunyang and the pseudonym Huidao Ren. Once I met Zhong Liquan in Chang’an and was inspired by him. Zhong Liquan tested him with his “dream of a yellow beam”, and Lv Dongbin experienced glory, wealth, and hardships in his dream. When he woke up, he realized that life is like a dream, so he abandoned his official position and joined the Tao. After various practices, he attained enlightenment and became immortal, practiced medicine to benefit the world, eliminated demons and monsters, and showed great kindness. He is highly respected by the people and is known as the “Pure Yang Patriarch”. His legend is widely circulated and has a profound impact..

Huineng

The Sixth Patriarch of Zen Buddhism

Huineng, a native of Lingnan, came from a poor family and made a living by cutting firewood from a young age. Once I heard someone recite the Diamond Sutra and suddenly realized Buddhist principles, so I went north to worship the Fifth Patriarch Hongren as my teacher. Due to his profound wisdom, he was secretly taught the mantle and became the sixth ancestor of Zen Buddhism. In order to avoid worldly disputes, Huineng went south to live in seclusion for sixteen years. Later, he preached Buddhism at the Faxing Temple in Guangzhou, advocating for “enlightenment to become a Buddha” and breaking the shackles of class and writing. His quotations have been compiled into the “Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch’s Altar”, which is a classic of Zen Buddhism. Huineng was a legendary figure throughout his life and was revered as the “founder of the Southern School”, leading to the flourishing of Zen Buddhism.

Mencius

Confucian sage

Mencius, a native of Zou countrymen in the Warring States Period, was intelligent and eager to learn. Under the guidance of Confucius’ grandson Si, inheriting and developing Confucianism, he was revered as the “sage of Asia”. He traveled around various countries, persuading monarchs to implement benevolent governance, advocating that “the people are the most important, the state is secondary, and the ruler is the least important”, emphasizing that human nature is inherently good. Once, King Xuan of Qi asked him about the way to govern the country, and Mencius moved the monarch with the words’ I treat the elderly as well as the elderly, and I treat the young as well as the young ‘, but he never achieved his ideal. In the end, he wrote seven chapters of Mencius, which had a profound impact and became one of the important Confucian classics.
